A good leader has an exemplary character. It is of utmost importance that a leader is trustworthy to lead others. A good leader "walks the talk" and in doing so earns the right to have responsibility for others. True authority is born from respect for the good character and trustworthiness of the person who leads. A good leader is enthusiastic about their work or cause and also about their role as a leader. Leaders need to be able to be a source of inspiration, and be motivated towards the required action or cause. Although the responsibilities and roles of a leader may be different, the leader needs to be seen to be part of the team working towards the same goal. A good leader is confident. Such a person inspires confidence in others and draws out the trust and best efforts of the team to complete the task well. A leader who conveys confidence towards the proposed objective inspires the best effort from team members. A good leader is able to think analytically. While keeping the goal in view, a good leader can break it down into manageable steps and make progress towards it. A good leader is committed to excellence. A good leader not only maintains high standards, but also is proactive in raising the bar in order to achieve excellence in all areas.

A good leader will be calm and function in an orderly manner during situations of uncertainty or in stressful situations. A leader will take each milestone and crises as part of a learning experience and not become frantic over a small matter. A leader will also portrays confidence even when things are looking bad.

1. Influence
A good leader has to be able to influence others and make them willingly want to do what the leader wants them to do. Without influence, nobody would be following the leader and the leader would have a hard time making their followers do what he wants them to do.

2. Honesty
A good leader must also be honest in their deeds and words. If a leader is not honest, their followers will, sooner or later, lose trust in them. Without their followers' trust, they will also lose their influence and it would be extremely hard for him to gain it back.

3. Vision
A good leader has to set a vision for their followers, so that they all have one common goal and know what they are working for.

How do you think a good leader manages crisis under stressful conditions?
I think a good leader would keep his calm and think through the situation first. He will then consider the options given to him and select the best option to solve the crisis.

Good leaders always have self-confidence. The reason why people listen to leaders is because he motivates people. The one who persuades others to a better goal for their future. Using logic and common sense, the leader is able to manipulate other people's mind so that both parties share a common vision.

He gives concrete evidence on why everyone should listen to him. He have his own backup answers/statistic and he will convince people that he is right. Under certain pitfall or drawbacks. A good leader always have resilience and he is able to change according to situation in order to solve the problem.

Example: If a country have a financial crisis, a leader must first possess a optimistic view. He must reassure his people that everything is going to be fine and motivate his people to work harder. If the leader did not bother to coax his people first, he is going to lose a lot of followers and this can lead to a major problem in the future when he cannot rally support anymore.

Traits of a Leader
Leaders have many traits, but among these traits that the leaders possess, there are few traits that a leader should have. Some of these traits are honest, forward-looking, competent and inspiring. Why are these traits more important? Well firstly, people want to follow an honest leader, one that they can trust to lead them to a better future. Secondly, you want a leader that plans what is his next move, not one who waits for something to happen and then think of a solution. Thirdly, a leader should display competency to show his followers that he is a worthy leader and that is why he is in charge. Finally, a leader should be inspiring, and serve as a role model to his followers.

Managing Stressful Situations
A good leader will remain calm about the situation. This will allow him to think more clearly and listen more to his followers' suggestions. Another thing the leader would do is to solve the smaller problem first instead of going straight to the big problem. This is as the smaller problems can be neglected as first to solve the big problem but in time, might end up snowballing into a much bigger problem than you can handle.

How do you think a good leader manages crisis under stressful situations?

A good leader should remain calm and composed in such situations . He must first let the team to realise this urgency. Then , he should , together with the team , consider the options they have before deciding on the finial decision.

eLearning CE: Activity 3 - Lim Hao Yang (11)

Charismatic and Self-Confident

A good leader has charisma and self-confident. People have to believe in the leader, then the leader can be considered as a good one. Being confident is the first step to this, as followers tend to like people who are firm in their believes. Having charisma backs this up. Take President Barack Obama for example. His charismatic nature has captivated many, local and foreign.

Inspirational

A good leader has to be inspirational. So much so that he/she can inspire a change in people. This is one way of making people motivated to move towards a common goal. Take Steve Job for example. He told the CEO from Pepsi, "Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to change the world?"

Forward-Looking

Leaders have to have a vision. And they must dare to speak about it. People tend to listen to people whom they share a common vision with. However, most people are either not in the know of the leader's vision, or that the leader does not have one. A leader that has no time to plan for the future most probably will not be doing too well himself in the present.

How do you think a good leader manages crisis under stressful situations?

I think a good leader should first remain calm. He has to think through the chain of events that lead to the crisis. After he has identified the root of the problem, he can then solve the problem and take precautions against another wave of it.

How do you think a good leader manages a crisis under stressful conditions:
I think a good leader manages a crisis under stressful conditions by taking time to think about the best way to move forward, but not taking too much time that the crisis has already cost you something.A good leader must also be shown as strong to his followers, and not be shown as weak in a crisis as being shown as weak can weaken the organisation and the relatiobship between the leader and the followers.
